Greetings & Salutations

Welcome to Roman Fitness Systems, the central hub of the Roman Fitness Empire. We want to take a minute to get you sorted and let you know what to expect here.

On this page, you’ll find more of a mission statement than a breakdown1 of our history—and, really, the defining word on what we’re all about.

Roman Fitness Systems began as a personal training company, founded by our leader and namesake, Roman. Years later, he started this site, which has since become one of the most popular sources of fitness information anywhere.

And while that’s awesome, it hasn’t been our primary goal. Our goal has always to simply be the best at what we do.

RFS Is More Than Just a Fitness Site

From the outset, RFS was intended to be radically different from other sites, every way possible: the quality of information, the commitment to making each article as well-written as it was informative, and the focus on making things as entertaining as possible.

But the main thing that differed was the attitude. We’ve never been afraid to take chances and experiment. Certainly, this attitude applies to testing cutting-edge training protocols or radical nutritional strategies. But we’ve also taken risks in terms of the content we present, and the way we present it.

Let other sites “stick to fitness.” Let other sites have the same bland, boring content as anyone else.

Those who aspire to mediocrity will find no place here. Our aim is to push the boundaries of what people expect in terms of self-development and self-structured learning, and we’ll do that by writing whatever the hell we please, about anything we want.

We Have a Different Definition of the Word “Fitness”

To be very clear, on this site you will find articles about both diet and exercise; you’ll find articles about supplementation, and the options to pick up great programs at incredible deals. You’ll have the opportunity to change your body and your life working with our team of world-class fitness coaches.

Along those lines, we also have some awesome free stuff for you, and we highly recommend you grab it.

If you want to lose fat, you should snag The 5 Principles of Radical Fat Loss – it’s full of strategies, guidelines, and workouts, all outlining exactly what you need to do to make the fastest fat loss progress possible. You can grab that one here.

For those looking to put on quality muscle, you need to check out our guide, How to Look Fucking Awesome – which is exactly what it’ll teach you to do. There’s a 30-day training program that comes attached to it, which is also rad. You can snag those by heading to this page.

So, yes: you’ll find a lot of information about traditional fitness topics. But you’ll also find articles about business and entrepreneurship, sex and relationships, and writing and marketing, all presented in the most awesome way possible.

But why? Simply: to us, all of those things are fitness related. You see, here at RFS, we don’t look at “fitness” from the limited perspective of physicality. We look at it as a whole life approach.

Put another way, we believe in the true Darwinian definition of fitness. When Herbert Spencer famously coined the phrase “survival of the fittest” in his Principles of Biology (1864), he was referring to Darwin’s theory of natural selection.2

This term has, quite unfortunately, been taken out of context—especially in the health industry.

Survival of the fittest does not mean whoever is strongest, or fastest, or smartest will win. In reality, fitness isn’t about strength, or speed, or intelligence. True Darwinian Fitness boils down to one idea or goal: suitability for success in a given endeavor.

That’s it. It’s about suitability for success.

Being well-suited for challenges allows you to survive your trials, have repeated successes, and pass along your greatness. That is what fitness really means, and that is exactly what we’re about here: helping you become as suitable for success.

In short, Roman Fitness Systems is a site about seeking and developing fitness in every sense of the word. That’s why we write and publish articles on everything from mythology to muscle building, sex to science, and health to heroism.

We want to help you learn as much as you can about as many things as possible. We want to be the resource that serves to help you cultivate capability. We want to help you push yourself towards suitability for success, in whatever area of life you need it.

All of that said…we do feel compelled to mention one important fact: RFS is not for everyone.

Who This Site Is For

We want to help as many people as possible, but we’re also acutely aware that trying to please everyone is the surest path to pleasing no one.

Thankfully, we’ve never had a problem trying to please everyone. We only worry about pleasing people who enjoy great, entertaining content, and are savvy and cool enough to be inspired by the way it’s presented, rather than offended by it.

To that, it’s imperative that you understand we very intentionally write for an adult audience. We use mature language, and publish some very directed content, none of which is going to pull any punches.3

The way we see it, we write for an HBO audience. If you’re into Sex and the City or Game of Thrones or Billions, the frequency with which profanity or references to sex pop up in articles should be neither jarring nor particularly off-putting.

We don’t do these things to be controversial. We do them because we feel they’re important topics, and that they need to be covered in certain ways.

On the other hand, if you don’t like HBO because your sensitivity to sex or language outweighs the brilliant writing, compelling storylines, or great acting to the extent that you can’t enjoy quality programming,4 that’s fine; you can watch other stuff.

Along those lines, if you don’t want to talk about innovative ways to make great progress or discuss superhero movies, or if you’re going to be vexed by the occasional off-color comment or picture, this might not be the site for you—and you are encouraged to find the one that is5.

So, we’re not for everyone; but if you like Tarantino movies, or Fight Club or The Walking Dead, you’ll love us: the tonality and delivery of the writing will be perfectly suited to you, and all of the information you’ll find here is high-level, effective, and actionable.

Above all else, our goal is to publish something you read here that makes you think, makes you laugh, and helps you become a better you.

Because that’s really the type of fitness we’re about here: the kind that matters.

In Closing

Despite the extreme expansion over the past several years, one thing hasn’t changed: RFS continues to be one of the most respected sites for high-quality information around. It’s our goal to make sure that never changes.

As things have continued to evolve, we’ve aggressively expanded our horizons, and actively seek content in all areas of personal and business development. If you have an idea for an article, we’d love to take a look at it.

The Roman Fitness Empire has grown by leaps and bounds, and that couldn’t happen without all of the incredible readers of this site. Without you, RFS would still be a personal training company in NYC, or a blog run by one guy with a lot to say and a propensity for…shall we say, colorful loquacity.

As far as we see it, the only way we can repay our readers for helping us achieve so many amazing things is to continue pumping out amazing content, as often as possible. And that is exactly what you’re going to get.

So stick around, and welcome to RFS, and the Roman Fitness Empire, where being awesome is both the path and the destination.

 Notes

  1. If you’re interested in the history and set up of RFS, we’ve got all that over here.
  2. Darwin later went on to include the phrase in the 5th edition of Origin of Species.
  3. Just to be clear, nothing you read on this site will ever be X-rated, or overly graphic, or anything like that. But it won’t be censored, either.
  4. It’s worth noting that these are shows which are, according to all authorities and by all conceivable metrics, the best on television.
  5. We actually mean this. Truthfully, we want you to get the best content for you, so you can hit your goals, whatever those might be. If this isn’t the site for you, we’re happy to help you find the one that is.
