Let’s talk about boner pills. Well, more specifically, let’s talk about an herb called Tongkat Ali, which can enhance libido, improve sexual performance, and possibly even boost testosterone.
In fact, this benefit is even in the official name of Tongkat Ali, which is Eurycoma longifolia, or longjack. That’s right, longjack. Whoever named this is either a genius marketer, or just wanted to make themselves giggle. I’ll die hoping it’s both.
As the myth goes, the name comes from its aphrodisiac properties. That is, by increasing blood flow and libido, TA supports men and their erections.
Now, we have to mention a few things before we get into the best Tongkat Ali products out there.
First of all, this category of supplement can be quite sketchy. Wherever there’s a potential solution to men’s sexual woes, you better believe there’s a bunch of scummy companies running ads on pornhub for their shit products.
Most of these ingredients turn out to either be totally worthless or of questionable legality and safety. To that, make sure you get Tongkat Ali from a trusted, third-party tested source. As we’ve talked about, the supplements industry is notoriously unregulated, so there could be all kinds of crap in your supplements that you don’t know about.
Every product on our list is third-party tested.
Second, most testosterone boosters don’t really boost testosterone. If they do, it’s often in sedentary populations or in people with low testosterone. To some extent that’s true with Tongkat Ali. However, there are some compelling studies showing that after all, Tongkat Ali may improve testosterone even in active, younger populations.
Third, a quick clarification. Yellow Tongkat Ali is what you’ll find in supplements. Black and red Tongkat Ali refer to different species that you won’t find in products. Sny claims that it’s “pure yellow Tongkat Ali” is obvious, and attempts to up-play this is just marketing.
As a final clarification, supplements include Tongkat Ali root extract, NOT the entire root. If this were the case, you would be eating a whole root, which would be dumb.
I think the claims made out there right now seem a bit ahead of the research, but I want to highlight some interesting studies.
In this 2020 study, active men from 42-52 years of age who trained and took Tongkat Ali improved their testosterone and had less erectile dysfunction than a group that trained alone for six months.
To see benefits in slightly older populations is unsurprising, but this 2021 study looked at men in their 20s who took 600mg of Tongkat Ali per day over just two weeks, and showed increases in free testosterone.
Finally, I’ll highlight this often-cited study from 2012 that showed decreased stress (cortisol), better erections, higher libido, and even higher-quality sperm. However, as exciting as this is, the study was funded by a company that sells Tongkat Ali so even though the methods look solid, there’s reason to be skeptical.
Taken all together, I do believe there’s something promising here, and my goal is to showcase products that are high-quality and effectively dosed.
Lastly, before we jump into the list, if you’re goal is to improve testosterone and sexual performance, make sure you’re doing the basics first. Sleep well, eat healthy, and lift weights. Supplements should not be your first line of defense.
Now, here’s our list of the best tongkat ali supplements out there.

Best Overall Tongkat Ali: Slim Sciences Tongkat Ali Advanced+
Best Overall Testosterone Booster with Tongkat Ali: Kaged Ferodrox
Best Value: Slim Sciences Tongkat Ali Advanced+ Tongkat Ali
Best for Beginners: Double Wood Tongkat Ali Complex
A few elements make Slim Sciences Tongkat Ali Advanced+ our top pick for TA supplements.
First, their overall purity and quality. Every batch is third-party tested and verified, made in the USA, and backed by their 365-day money-back guarantee.
Second, they use full-spectrum Tongkat Ali that’s standardized to contain 2% eurycomanone extract to help improve libido, sexual performance, and testosterone levels.
These are the bioactive compounds responsible for Tongkat Ali’s effects.
This standardization is especially important, otherwise you don’t know how much of the bioactive compounds you’re getting.
Third, just for RFS readers they’re offering a buy 1 get 2 free offer, which makes their high-quality product still one of the best deals on the market.
Packed with full spectrum Tongkat ali and 2% Eurycomanone extract for maximum drive and performance.
Every serving contains 800mg of tongkat ali extract, 100:1 standardized. The only other ingredients are their vegetable capsule and brown rice flour.
What you’re getting with Silm Sciences…
For all of these reasons, Slim Sciences Tongkat Ali Advanced+ is #1 on our list.
Double Wood Supplements is one of the most well-trusted, reputable brands out there specifically when it comes to longevity and health products. Their Tongkat Ali Complex is no exception. They’re third-party tested to ensure safety and quality.
Each capsule has 500mg of tongkat ali extract. This is as high or higher than many of the studies, and higher than a lot of other products. And it’s just $25 for 120 capsules. And $22 if you sign up for a subscription.
And it’s one you won’t beat if you’re looking for transparent, reputable, trustworthy brands.
They also added 20mg of Tribulus Terrestris, a popular and safe testosterone booster, to the product. While I’m also skeptical of trib’s test-boosting effect for healthy people, it’s proven safe and can also increase libido.
Double Wood’s TA standardizes the amount of eurycomanone, which is the active ingredient in TA. It’s free of any unnecessary fillers.
Tongkat Ali capsules also are the most convenient way to take tongkat ali. There are powder available, but unless you’re pinching pennies, go with the capsules.
It’s gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan-friendly, and soy-free. It’s also strictly lab-tested.
This is a product you won’t see on many other lists, but we included it high up for a few reasons. First, if your goal is to boost testosterone, look into all-encompassing formulas like this, rather than just single ingredients.
While most “testosterone boosters” are pretty much garbage, Ferodrox contains 2oomg of Tongkat Ali per serving. While that’s lower than other products on our list, they use a patented form on Tongkat Ali called LJ100®.
This form is standardized to have at least 22% “eurypeptides” and 40% glycosaponins, the compounds responsible for TA’s effects. LJ100® was discovered by a research team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has specific research on its androgenic effects.
Kaged is one of the top, emerging companies in the supplement industry, known for their exceptional quality and premium-sourced products.
Additionally, Ferodrox has other testosterone-promoting ingredients like ashwagandha, zinc, and more. If your goal is testosterone increases specifically, this is our top recommendation.
PureBulk is third-party tested and you can even request a copy of their lab results. And, there’s no fluff.
It’s just pure Tongkat Ali powder.
You can get 100 grams of powder for just $20, start smaller, or purchase more. For context, Double Wood Supplements in capsule form costs 60 grams for $25. That Double Wood provides a phenomenal deal compared to competitors.
So if you’re looking for a bulk purchase this may the one for you.
The downside is that you’ll have to throw it into something like a smoothie. Since it’s an herb, it’s a little sweet, but it won’t affect the taste of any smoothie because you don’t really take large doses of it (compared to like, BCAAs, which have scoops of about 5 grams.) This makes it easy to throw into pretty much any beverage.
Solaray has been making products since 1973 and distributes widely across major stores like Whole Foods. They’re competitively priced with Double Wood. You can get 60, 400mg capsules for just $10. While they’re third-party tested, they don’t have the GMP certification that I look for in top recommendations.
NOW Foods is another reputable brand with an impressive track record. Their product comes with 60, 300mg capsules for $20. It’s a lower dose, but NOW’s reputation speaks for itself. They always bring simple products with now fluff behind them.
Pure Organic Ingredients has a third-party tested product with 365 capsules with 425mg of tongkat ali per capsule for $30. This is also competitively priced. But, they’re also not GMP-certified and they’re a newer company with less track record.
Advanced Physician Formulas products’ are formulated by doctors themselves. They definitely provide high-quality products. However, at just 200 mg per capsule, so the dose is much lower than products higher on our list.
Nootropics Depot has some of the most transparent manufacturing out there. They have lab results posted for every single batch, so you know you’re getting a high-quality product.
However, per gram, this product is much more expensive. Each tablet has only 100mg, which is well below the doses used in the studies, and is $40 for a 120 tablet bottle.
Herbolab also displays its test results for every batch, and has 300mg per dose. But with just 80 capsules per bottle at a $70 price point, you’re paying more for less.
A few key factors went into our ranking system.
Every product on our list is third-party tested. Simply, it’s a prerequisite.
We looked for products that can give you the effective, recommended dosage in a convenient, easy delivery. To that, we also looked for products with standardized amounts of eurycomanone.
It’s naive to think we’re not comparing prices when looking at products, so of course we’re factoring in the cost base on the dose and the number of capsules.
While it’s a safe ingredient, the most common side effect is excessive alertness. So you should take it earlier in the day and have a Tongkat Ali curfew. Interrupting your sleep will negate any testosterone-promoting benefits you get from it.
You don’t need insomnia and restlessness in your life. Take TA in the morning, and start with a lower dose. Never exceed the recommended dose.
As always, you should take to your healthcare provider before taking any supplement. I’m not a doctor, and I don’t play one on the internet.
Tongkat Ali may increase testosterone levels. As a downstream effect of that, it may support muscle growth. Again, it will NOT replace a good diet and resistance training. For serious bodybuilders, it’s a worthwhile addition, even if the benefits are minor.
Increasing testosterone (naturally) has an array of other health benefits. These include…
Testosterone is a powerful hormone, and that’s why the testosterone booster category excels, even though most products show little to no benefit.
One study showed that Tongkat Ali root extract supplementation led to a slight decrease in cortisol. However, if reducing cortisol is your goal, I recommend you check out our article on the best supplements to reduce cortisol.
While this claims exists, right now, there isn’t any strong evidence to suggest TA improves your immune health. The claim comes from the fact that the root may have some antioxidant properties.
If your goal is to support your testosterone naturally, there are high-quality, comprehensive test-booster supplements that may provide a boost. Kaged Ferodrox, in addition to a great dose of TA, contains Zinc, Ashwagandha, DIM, and more.
Another herbal supplement that won’t boost your T, but may support your libido is maca root.
Yes. It comes from a root in Malaysia, so it’s often touted as a natural “herbal remedy.” More to the point, it has been used as an herb for libido and sexual health for generations. This has led to its recent popularity as a potential natural testosterone booster.
Okay, it’s time to dispel some other myths. First of all, Tongkat Ali grows in the following places: Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand.
This begs the question: which is the best?
You may read that some places, like Indonesia or Malaysia, grow better TA because of its “more potent soils.” However, this is almost always from people selling you a tongkat ali brand from that place. The reality is, as long as the product is standardized, you know exactly what its potency is, regardless of where it comes from.
Remember, you’re taking an extract, NOT the root itself.
Standardization, testing, and reasonable prices are what to look for in quality Tongkat Ali. All the better if they have things like money-back guarantees and good customer reviews. Beyond that, don’t overcomplicate it.
Yes, they are synonyms and refer to the same ingredient.
You may also see it called “eurycoma longifolia jack” with it listed as “eurycoma longifolia extract” on the label. Sometimes, it’s also called “Malaysian ginseng,” since it grows in Southeast Asia and has some similar benefits as Panax ginseng.
These are all synonyms.
