Let’s talk about boner pills. More specifically, let’s talk about an herb called Tongkat Ali, which can enhance libido, improve sexual performance, and possibly even boost testosterone.
It’s in the official name of Tongkat Ali, which is Eurycoma longifolia, or longjack. That’s right, longjack. Whoever named this is either a genius marketer or just wanted to make themselves giggle. I’ll die hoping it’s both.
As the myth goes, the name comes from its aphrodisiac properties. That is, by increasing blood flow and libido, TA supports men and their erections.
However, this category of supplement can be sketchy. Wherever there’s a potential solution to men’s sexual woes, there are scummy companies with ads on pornhub for shit products.
Most of these ingredients turn out to be worthless or of questionable legality and safety. To that, make sure you get Tongkat Ali from a trusted, third-party tested source.
All the products listed here are third-party tested.
Now we’ve got the disclaimer out of the way, here’s our list of the best Tongkat Ali supplements out there.
The supplements on our list include Tongkat Ali root extract, NOT the entire root. If this were the case, you would be eating a whole root, which would be dumb.

A few elements make Slim Sciences Tongkat Ali Advanced+ our top pick for TA supplements.
First off, the overall purity and quality. Every batch is third-party tested and verified, made in the USA, and backed by their 365-day money-back guarantee. That’s impressive.
Second, they use full-spectrum Tongkat Ali standardized to contain 2% eurycomanone extract. These are the bioactive compounds responsible for improving libido, sexual performance, and testosterone levels.
This standardization is important; otherwise, you won’t know how much of the bioactive compounds you’re getting.
Third, just for RFS readers, they’re offering a buy 1 get 2 free offer, which makes their high-quality product still one of the best deals on the market.
Every serving contains 800 mg of tongkat ali extract, 100:1 standardized. The only other ingredients are their vegetable capsule and brown rice flour.
What you’re getting with Slim Sciences:
It’s full spectrum Tongkat ali with 2% Eurycomanone extract for maximum drive and performance.
For all of these reasons, Slim Sciences Tongkat Ali Advanced+ is #1 on our list.
Double Wood Supplements is one of the most trusted, reputable brands out there when it comes to longevity and health products. Their Tongkat Ali Complex is no exception. It is the most affordable on this list and is third-party tested to ensure safety and quality.
Each capsule has 500 mg of tongkat ali extract. This dose is as high or higher than those used in studies and higher than a lot of other products.
And it’s one you won’t beat if you’re looking for transparent, reputable, trustworthy, affordable brands.
They also added 20 mg of Tribulus Terrestris, a popular and safe testosterone booster, to the product. While I’m also skeptical of trib’s test-boosting effect for healthy people, it’s proven safe and may also increase libido.
Double Wood’s TA standardizes the amount of eurycomanone, which is the active ingredient in TA. It’s free of any unnecessary fillers.
Tongkat Ali capsules also are the most convenient way to take tongkat ali. There are powders available, but unless you’re pinching pennies, go with the capsules for ease of use.
It’s gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan-friendly, and soy-free. It’s also made in the US and strictly lab-tested.
Force Factor Longjack Tongkat Ali provides a high potency dose of 1,200 mg of pure extract per serving. It’s standardized for eurycomanone to deliver the best outcomes.
Plus, it’s delivered in a fast-acting “LJ Max Matrix” with 50 mcg of selenium and 5 mg of BioPerine black pepper extract for superior absorption. Better absorption = better efficacy.
Force Factor capsules are vegan-friendly and contain no artificial colorants, sugar, or preservatives. If you take 2 capsules daily, a bottle will last one month.
Force Factor makes all its products in cGMP-compliant and FDA-registered facilities.
You won’t see this product on many other lists, but we included it for a few reasons.
First, if your goal is to boost testosterone, look into all-encompassing formulas like this rather than just single ingredients.
While most “testosterone boosters” are garbage, Ferodrox contains 200 mg of Tongkat Ali per serving. It’s lower than other products on our list, but they use a patented form of Tongkat Ali called LJ100® backed by clinical studies.
LJ100® was discovered by a research team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has specific research on its androgenic effects. It is standardized to have at least 22% “eurypeptides” and 40% glycosaponins, the compounds responsible for TA’s effects.
Additionally, Ferodrox has other testosterone-promoting ingredients like ashwagandha, zinc, and more. If your goal is testosterone increases specifically, this is our top recommendation.
Finally, Kaged is one of the top emerging companies in the supplement industry, known for exceptional quality and premium-sourced products.
Dorado Nutrition has one of the most potent on the market today at a great price. Each capsule contains 600 mg of Tongkat Ali extract.
They suggest taking 2 capsules daily – a whopping 1200 mg – for at least 90 days to see improvements in your training, sexual performance, T levels, and overall drive.
That said, they don’t specify the concentration ratio of their Tongkat Ali. And they use gelatin capsules, which may not suit some users.
Dorado offers free shipping in the US and a 30-day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee.
We love that Dorado Nutrition’s Tongkat Ali is cGMP-certified, third-party tested, and made in the US.
Nutricost Tongkat Ali is a potent men’s health formula for supporting T levels and libido.
Each serving contains 100 mg of Tongkat Ali in a 200:1 extract. It also comes with 20 mg of Tribulus Terrestris Extract to support the effects of Tongkat Ali for overall hormone and sexual health. On top of that, Nutricost includes 5 mg of BioPerine® Black Pepper Extract to promote absorption and bioavailability.
The capsules are non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan-friendly.
This is a simple yet potent formula from a cGMP-compliant company. Plus, it’s third-party tested.
If you know Tongkat Ali works for you and want to stock up, PureBulk Tongkat Ali is a great option.
Each serving contains 200 mg of Tongkat Ali in a 100:1 concentration ratio.
You can get the powder in 25, 50, and 100 grams or up to 1.5 kgs. The downside is that you’ll have to throw it into something like a smoothie. But you don’t need to take large doses of it. A serving is 1/16 of a teaspoon (compared to BCAAs, which have scoops of about 5 grams.) This makes it easy to throw into pretty much any beverage.
That said, PureBulk also offers gelatin and veggie capsules in bottles of 300.
PureBulk is third-party tested, and you can request a copy of their lab results.
So, if you’re looking for a bulk purchase, this may be for you.
Solaray Tongkat capsules deliver 400 mg per capsule for a great price.
Solaray has been making products since 1973 and distributes them across major stores like Whole Foods.
While they’re third-party tested, they don’t have the cGMP certification I look for in top recommendations.
Elm & Rye Tongkat Ali Gummies offer a different, tasty way to get your libido firing again.
Each fruity gummy contains 450 mg of Tongkat Ali.
While they’re vegan-friendly and naturally flavored, the gummies contain corn syrup and sugar, which isn’t suitable for diabetics or those on keto. I wish they didn’t use the corn syrup, but it’s a great product otherwise.
Elm & Rye is a quality brand founded by a doctor and a pharmacist. They send their supplements to third-party labs to analyze and post the results online for full transparency.
NOW Foods is another reputable brand with an impressive track record. Their product comes with 60, 300mg capsules. It’s a lower dose, but NOW’s reputation speaks for itself. They always bring simple products with now fluff behind them.
Micro Ingredients has a high-concentration Tongkat Ali powder. It’s grown in Indonesia and thoroughly tested as free of heavy metals and microorganisms.
Just 1 scoop delivers 500 mg of Tongkat Ali in a 200:1 extract ratio – a concentrated dose.
It comes with the scoop measure, so you get an accurate dose every time. Plus, the bag contains roughly 200 servings, which will last ages.
It’s a pure nutritional powder free from preservatives, additives, fillers, GMOs, soy, gluten, and flavorings. I like Micro Ingredients powders as they’re absorbable and easy on the stomach.
That said, you’ll need to cover up the bitter herbal taste by adding it to a smoothie or protein shake.
Pure Original Ingredients has a third-party tested Tongkat Ali supplement that offers 425 mg per capsule. Plus, a bottle comes with a generous 365 capsules.
I like that it’s free of fillers and flow agents like magnesium stearate or rice flour. It’s ideal for those with digestive issues or allergies.
While they say the product is lab-verified, the company is not cGMP-certified and has less of a proven track record.
Advanced Physician Formulas provide high-quality products formulated by real doctors.
This Tongkat Ali supplement contains 200 mg (100:1 extract ratio) per capsule. It’s lower than other products on our list but worthwhile if you want to start with a lower dose and build up.
Nootropics Depot has some of the most transparent manufacturing out there. Lab results are available for every batch, so you know you’re getting a high-quality product.
However, each tablet of their Tongkat Ali only contains 100 mg, which is well below the doses used in the studies. And this product is much more expensive per gram.
On the plus side, it contains 10% eurycomanone.
You can choose between bottles of 60 or 120 capsules. Nootropics Depot also offers same-day shipping in the US.
Herbolab displays its test results for every batch and has 300 mg per dose.
But with just 80 capsules per bottle, you’re paying more for less with this product.
In the spirit of transparency, we have a few disclaimers about Tongkat Ali supplements.
Most testosterone boosters don’t really boost testosterone. If they do, it’s often in sedentary populations or people with low testosterone. To some extent, the same is true with Tongkat Ali. However, some compelling studies show that Tongkat Ali may improve testosterone even in active, younger populations.
Finally, yellow Tongkat Ali is what you’ll find in supplements. Black and red Tongkat Ali refer to different species you won’t find in products. So, don’t be fooled by claims that it’s “pure yellow Tongkat Ali.”
These are a few key factors that went into our ranking system.
As mentioned, the supplements industry is notoriously unregulated. There could be all kinds of crap in your supplements that you don’t know about.
Every product on our list is third-party tested. Simply, it’s a prerequisite.
We looked for products that can give you the effective, recommended dosage in a convenient, easy delivery. To that, we also looked for products with standardized amounts of eurycomanone.
These supplements contain pure Tongkat Ali extract without fillers, gluten, GMOs, preservatives, additives, or artificial ingredients.
We also included products with additional ingredients that may enhance the effects of Tongkat Ali extract – like Tribulus Terrestris.
It’s naive to think we’re not comparing prices when looking at products. Of course, we’re factoring in the cost based on the dose and number of capsules.
Tongkat Ali, also known as Eurycoma longifolia, is a flowering plant native to Southeast Asia. You can find it in countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
The root is often known as the “Malaysian ginseng” and has a long history of use in traditional Eastern medicine as a male sexual health and vitality superfood.
Tongkat Ali extract contains various bioactive compounds, including quassinoids, alkaloids, and flavonoids, which may contribute to its medicinal properties.
Let’s dive into more about these potential benefits.
I think the claims about this seem ahead of the current research, but I want to highlight some interesting studies.
In this 2020 study, active men aged 42-52 who trained and took Tongkat Ali improved their testosterone and had less erectile dysfunction than those who only trained for six months.
To see benefits in older populations is unsurprising, but this 2021 study looked at men in their 20s who took 600 mg of Tongkat Ali per day. In just two weeks, they had increases in free testosterone.
Finally, this often-cited study from 2012 showed decreased stress hormones (cortisol), better erections, higher libido, and even higher-quality sperm. However, as exciting as this is, the study was funded by a company that sells Tongkat Ali so even though the methods look solid, there’s reason to be skeptical.
I believe something is promising here, and my goal is to showcase high-quality and effectively dosed products.
However, if your goal is to improve testosterone and sexual performance, make sure you’re doing the basics first. Sleep well, eat healthy, and lift weights. Supplements should not be your first line of defense.
Do you have burning questions about Tongkat Ali supplements?
Let’s unpack them here.
There is no official dosage because it varies depending on the supplement brand and the concentration of active ingredients.
However, most clinical trials used 200–400 mg of standardized Tongkat Ali extract per day. Most supplements on our list contain 200-600 mg of Tongkat Ali per dose.
While it’s a safe ingredient, the most common side effect is excessive alertness, irritability, and restlessness. So, take it earlier and have a Tongkat Ali curfew. Interrupting your sleep will negate any testosterone-promoting benefits you get from it.
Never exceed the recommended dose.
As always, you should talk to your healthcare provider before taking any supplement, especially if you have a pre-existing condition or are taking medication. I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on the internet.
As mentioned, it’s best to take Tongkat Ali in the morning. You don’t need insomnia and restlessness in your life.
If you’re hitting the gym, try taking it 20-30 minutes before your workout to boost your stamina.
Tongkat Ali isn’t a magic bullet and there is no definitive answer. Everyone responds to herbal supplements differently.
That said, from the limited studies available, it may take 1-3 months to see results.
Tongkat Ali is mainly a men’s health supplement, with most research done on men. That said, a few studies suggest it is safe for women.
Overall, we need more research on the effects of Tongkat Ali on women.
Tongkat Ali may increase testosterone levels. As a downstream effect of that, it may support muscle growth. Again, it will NOT replace a good diet and resistance training. But, for serious bodybuilders, it’s a worthwhile addition, even if the benefits are minor.
Increasing testosterone (naturally) has an array of other health benefits, including:
Testosterone is a powerful hormone. It’s why the testosterone booster category excels, even though most products show little to no benefit.
One study showed that Tongkat Ali root extract supplementation slightly decreased the stress hormone cortisol.
However, if reducing cortisol is your goal, I recommend you check out our article on the best supplements to reduce cortisol.
While this claim exists, there’s no strong evidence that TA improves immune health.
The claim comes from the fact that the root may have antioxidant properties.
If you’re looking for a supplement to boost your immunity, greens powders are a great starting point, or something simpler like vitamin D.
If your goal is to support your testosterone naturally, high-quality, comprehensive T-booster supplements may provide a boost. Kaged Ferodrox, in addition to a great dose of TA, contains Zinc, Ashwagandha, DIM, and more.
Another herbal supplement that won’t boost your T but may support your libido is maca root.
Tongkat is often compared to maca because the two roots have similar libido-enhancing properties.
In fact, we’ve written an article exploring the pros and cons of maca vs. Tongkat Ali. Overall, which one is better for you depends on your health status and goals.
Yes. It comes from a root in Malaysia, so it’s often touted as a natural “herbal remedy.” More to the point, it’s been a popular herb for libido and sexual health for centuries. This has led to its recent popularity as a potential natural testosterone booster.
Yes. Tongkat Ali is freely available in the US as a herbal supplement.
It’s time to dispel some other myths. First of all, Tongkat Ali grows in the following places: Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand.
This begs the question: which is the best?
You may read that some places, like Indonesia or Malaysia, grow better TA because of its “more potent soils.” However, this is almost always from people selling you a Tongkat Ali brand from that place. The reality is, that as long as the product is standardized, you know its potency, regardless of where it comes from.
Remember, you’re taking an extract, NOT the root itself.
Standardization, testing, and reasonable prices are what to look for when buying Tongkat Ali. Even better if they have money-back guarantees and good customer reviews.
That’s why we like simple products like Slim Sciences TA Advanced+ and Double Wood TA Complex.
Yes, they are synonyms and refer to the same ingredient.
You may also see it called “eurycoma longifolia jack” or “eurycoma longifolia extract” on the label. Sometimes, it’s also called Malaysian ginseng since it grows in Southeast Asia and has some similar benefits as Panax ginseng.
These are all synonyms.
Disclaimer: I’m just a guy on the internet. Please talk to your healthcare provider before taking any dietary supplement, including tongkat ali.
